Gilbert is an older two years as Anne who was forced to drop out of school because his dad became unwell. Gilbert taunted Anne by calling her Carrots at their first school meeting. Amybeth McNulty portrays Anne, who is 13 years old and was raised in an orphanage and as being the house of strangers. Anne was mistakenly placed in the home of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. They lived on Prince Edward Island. When the show ends it is 1919 and they are happy; Gilbert is 55 and remains deeply attracted to Anne in Green Gables.
